Let's Go unicycle course

For the past year, our school has been involved in the Let's Go program run by the District Council. Last Thursday years 7 and 8 were extremely lucky to participate in a unicycle workshop run by a New Zealand representative Rowan. We focused on using our balance and were taught the begining riding tecniques of a unicycle. The day was an incredible experience and has certainly inspired the Media Team to try again sometime!

See you next time...

Interschool vs. Auroa

Hey guys,
As you know, Wednesday last week (8th August) we had our interschool against Auroa. Congratulations to Netball A and the Soccer team for their win and to the Rugby team for fighting hard!!! They were great, fair matches and I think we all loved their scrumptious home baking :) Thanks Auroa for hosting us and good luck for the rest of the tournament!

LEAD 2012

Many students at our school have the potential to be great leaders. 21 lucky year 7 and 8 students had the oppurtunity to learn from other's successes at the New Plymouth LEAD 2012. The conference featured many inspiring speakers such as Honourable Heika Parata (Minister of Education and Minister of Pacific Island Affairs), Jaimie Fenton (Young New Zealander 2011) Glenn Anderson (Surf Lifesaving), Beauden Barrett (All Black), CEO Panel, Sarah Ulmer (Olympic Gold Medalist 2004) Aimee Watkins (Captain of the New Zealand White Ferns 2009-2011), Lisa Tamati (Ultra Marathon Runner) and Jenny Ellis, the principal of NPGHS. It was a amazing chance for all of us young students to get a taste of leadership and enhance our leadership knowledge.

Junior Indoor Bowls Tournament 2012

The winning team!

During last term Room 10 and 11 were very lucky to be able to go to the Oakura Hall and learn how to play indoor bowls with the Oakura Bowls team.  We went for a few weeks and the Bowls team selected 6 teams of 4 pupils to represent the school at the Junior Indoor Bowls tournament which was held on the 28th June in Okato.  We competed against lots of teams from St Joseph’s School, Rahuto School and Coastal Taranaki.  There were some excellent bowls played and it was a tough competition.   However, Oakura came out on top and dominated the results by gaining 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Well done to all the Oakura Bowls teams who took part in the tournament.
